Watanabe Kabuse Shincha, organic
First early harvest, shaded bushes.
Shincha (translated as "new tea") is the first early harvest of the year. It is extremely sweet, with close to no astringency whatsoever, and refined, the latter aspect being hard to overstress.
There's also a poetic sense to drinking the first tea of the year - in a way, it encapsulates beautifully the essence of the quiet period of no fresh tea, it is a time of looking back and reflecting on where we have come from and definitely bears a special place in the heart of the tea lover.
As these teas always come in such limited quantities, they are mostly drunk up locally and rarely reach the Western market.
WATANABE KABUSE SHINCHA
WATANABE KABUSE SHINCHA from Mr. Mankichi Watanabes organic tea garden, harvested the 21st of April on Yakushima island, South-Kyushu, Japan. Mr. Watanabe considers diversity to be a key factor in producing high class tea and has chosen blended three tea tree varietals for making this tea - Kuritawase, Sae Midori and Asatsuyu. As the name KABUSE indicates, these bushes are shaded days before the harvest to keep them from direct sunlight, placing stress on the tea plant that in turn produces more refined tea. He has only 3 rows of Sae Midori growing on his premises and has thus produced only 35 kilograms of tea in total. We are very proud to be able to bring this very special tea to you!
