Chasen

There are more than 60 different types of matcha whisks, chasens in the world. They vary by the material, number of prongs and the shape of the whisk. Which one is used also depends on the type of matcha used, whether a thick (koicha) or thin (usucha) tea is prepared, the season, the type of matcha bowl that has been chosen for the occasion, whether the ceremony is of a formal or informal type and even which tea lineage one belongs to. And they said that tea is simplicity!

This whisk is made out of a single stick of bamboo that has been spread into 80 prongs and is pretty good to use with any type of matcha bowl. Best to occasionally soak the bamboo whisk in water for a bit, so to strengthen it and avoid it drying up and cracking.
