We're quite excited for this very good price to quality ratio Japanese early harvest shincha green tea. Harvested in beginning of May from Sae Midori cultivar bushes in Kakegawa, Shizuoka from a tea garden situated 300 meters above sea level. The harvest was done by machine to mitigate costs and the leaves were steamed for a longer duration in fukamushi style, together with medium strong final heating. This results in a tea that is darker in colour, more full-bodied and smooth with a round sweet flavour and very little astringency. Sae Midori is known for it's brisk, cool character with mild vegetal notes. Easy to brew, easy to like!

Shincha, literally "new tea" is the very early first harvest of the season, usually plucked a week or more before the regular harvest. For this style of tea, only the youngest buds and leaves are carefully selected and the tea typically undergoes a very short steaming process, preserving the raw essence of the leaf. Most of shincha is consumed up locally within Japan and very little is sold abroad.
