This is a premium water kettle from Yingge, Taiwan, made by a small studio that just celebrated it's 30th year anniversary.
Yingge is known for it's porcelain and ceramics workshops that go back as long as 200 years. Today there's over 800 ceramics workshops there and it is the largest ceramics producing town in Taiwan.
The kettle is skilfully made and pour very precisely. It's made from local Taiwanese clay that can be used both on gas as well as infrared (or regular hotplate). The lid knob is carved from wood and the integrated metal handle doesn't get hot to touch (it might get so for a few moments when using gas on full heat).
We recommend keeping the handle in an upright position, if you swing it on either side too often you may wear in the grooves in the clay and the handle becomes less stable over time.
Before using for the first time, it's good to boil water and dump it out for few times. In the beginning, the water can take on a slight taste of clay, but this will dissipate with use. Most important is not to put it on hot surface without any water inside. Also, you shouldn't use any detergents when cleaning the kettle, just water and a scrub if you like will be enough.
The kettle holds 1,25 litres.
Using a clay kettle to boil the water will make the water softer and smoother.
