Tongmu Jin Jun Mei "Golden Eyebrows", Chinese red tea

Jin Jun Mei, translated as "Golden Eyebrows" is one of the more recent creations going back mere 20 years, but despite its young age it has taken the tea world by a storm. Originating in Tongmu village in Wuyishan, the tea is heavily inspired by Lapsang Souchong. Yet, compared to the latter, Jin Jun Mei is not smoked and the picking standard is extremely fine - only the youngest buds or bud and the first shoot are meticulously handpicked. The tea is rolled into a specific coma or, going by the Buddhist tradition, eyebrow shape.

This gongfu red tea is sweet and delicate, light-bodied, berry-like and has a complex sweet potato aftertaste. Under this famous name one can encounter different styles of teas from various regions, including the more tart and tannic cocoa-like version from Yunnan.
