Exquisit red tea - sweet and with absolutely no astringency whatsoever!

This sort of Chinese red tea is often called purple tea - the nickname comes from the purplish colouring of the plucked tea leaves. This is a genetic mutation that can be found on tea plants in certain parts of Yunnan, China where the plants are growing in high altitude and have developed this hue in protect against the strong UV-rays. Purple tea is often a favourite of ours thanks to their almost candy-like sweetness and absolutely no astringency whatsoever. Our tea is picked from older, around 80 years of age, wild-growth tea trees in Yongde, Yunnan. The tea is slightly spicy with hints of caramel, citrus and ripe berries. Exquisit!
