Xiaguan tea factory is one of the earliest puerh producers dating back to mid 20th century, known particularly for their "tuocha", bird nest shaped teas. They are makers of many vintages that have become sought-after classics. The recipe of this particular tuocha goes back to 1975, it was among the very first puerh teas that was produced with the intention to be exported to the western market, foremost France, and it was later coined cutely as the little French tuo. It's also interesting that the factory is higher up in Yunnan in Dali, so it's not located in the eye of the eye of Yunnan tea growing itself.
The tea at hand was harvested in Spring 2016 in Menghai county from plantation style gardens. It's very sweet, woody, smooth and silky with a warming glow. A bit heady in a pleasant way, more of a morning-afternoon type of tea. As the production is rather big, there are many versions of this tea on the Chinese market with varying quality, differing from batch to batch - we are very happy with this particular find.
